.Your DKK Publishing Creative Space
A Privacy & Safety Guide for Young Authors
Welcome, Young Author!
DKK Publishing gives you a special place where you can use your imagination, create stories and become the author of your very own book.
Here are a few important things to remember while you create.
Keep Private Things Private
Your story is a place for your imagination.
You should not type private information into your story, such as:
- your home address;
- your parent’s bank details;
- passwords;
- your parent’s payment information;
private account information; or
other information that should stay secret.
If you are unsure whether something is okay to share, ask your parent or guardian.
Create Your Own Story
You can use DKK Publishing’s pictures and story themes to help you think of your own story.
Look carefully at the pictures.
Think about:
What is happening?
What could happen next?
What are the characters thinking?
What would you like them to say?
Then use your own words to tell the story.
Creating Your Own Theme
If your parent chooses the Create Your Own Story / Theme option, you can use your imagination to create your own adventure.
You can think about:
- characters;
- places;
- adventures;
- problems;
surprises; and
happy, funny or exciting endings.
Use Your Own Ideas
It is okay to be inspired by things you enjoy.
But when creating your own book, try to create your own characters, your own story and your own ideas.
Do not copy another person’s book and pretend that you wrote it.
Be Kind
Stories can be exciting, funny, mysterious and adventurous.
But remember to be respectful when writing about other people.
Do not use your story to bully or hurt someone.
Need Help?
If something on the website confuses you, ask your parent or guardian for help.
You do not need to send DKK Publishing private family information through your Child Account.
Your Book
When your story is finished, your parent or guardian will help with the next steps.
They will deal with DKK Publishing about things like:
- checking the book;
- approving the book;
- publishing;
payments; and
royalties.
You Are the Author
When you create your own original story, you are the Child Author.
Your parent and DKK Publishing will help turn your story into a published book.
So use your imagination, think creatively and enjoy creating something that is uniquely yours.
Books for Children, by Children.
